Volunteers play a very important role in the organization. Our volunteers hail from and provide support to those from many areas in and around Richmond. Our volunteers offer support and comfort to families. There are many opportunities to serve, in a variety of capacities.

Volunteer Opportunities

Done-In-A-Day ( DIAD)- Episodic volunteers provide a quick response or short-term project support to projects that can be accomplished in a one-time evening or weekend effort. Volunteers provide support in the form of in-kind donations (food, gifts etc.) or volunteer hours.  These volunteer opportunities, unlike our ongoing programs, are intended to be "done in a day" (DIAD). Done-In-A-Day activities are great ways for volunteers to make a difference in the community with minimal time commitment. Examples include delivering meals, performing yard work or house cleaning, gift wrapping, special events, and much more!

  • Meals for Munchkins – Shop, sort, and/or deliver meals to families.

  • Tools for Back to School – Assist in collecting and assembling school supplies from communities and asking for donations from stores to help Noah’s Children families.

  • Holiday Helpers – Help collect, sort, wrap, and deliver toys and gifts to our children and families during the holiday season.

  • Thanksgiving Meals- Help purchase and deliver a Thanksgiving dinner to a Noah’s Children family.

  • Family Fun Days-Volunteer at special themed weekend events for Noah's Children families.

  • and More!

Patient and Family Volunteers- Our volunteers have a huge impact on the lives of the families that we serve! They make visits in the home, spend much-needed one-on-one time with siblings and patients, and develop relationships that last a lifetime. Opportunities include:

  • Mentorship – Spend time with siblings of a patient. Do art projects, help with homework, and just be a friend.

  • Patient Visit – Give mom or dad a break while spending time with one of our Noah’s children.

Office Volunteers- This placement is ideal for volunteers who can make a regular commitment and wish to assist our staff at the office. Opportunities include:

  • Office work – Light office work such as stuffing envelopes, mailings, etc.

  • Special Events Planning Committee – Help coordinate our family events.

FAMILY SUPPORT (offsite) volunteer needs-These opportunities are ideal for those who are unable to volunteer but would still like to provide family support and make a difference.

Hospital Boxes:  Families with medically fragile children have frequent medical appointments, hospital visits, and extended hospital stays. Noah’s Children hospital boxes offer personal and self-care items, gift cards for meals, and an encouraging card from our Kids Helping Kids program.  Volunteers purchase brand new unopened items from this list or purchase directly from our Amazon Wish List.

Food Pantry: To provide meal assistance when needed, we have established a food pantry. The pantry provides non-perishable and frozen food for emergency meal support and to supplement families during the interim of the Meals for Munchkins program.  To support the pantry, please purchase directly from our Amazon Wish List.

Supplies Drive: Interested in sponsoring a supplies drive at your work, church, school, or civic group? Please use this list to collect donations and we will be happy to pick up the donations when ready.

Bereavement Support Meals: Mealtimes are often one of the hardest parts of the day for someone who lost a loved one. Please assist us with supporting families in our bereavement program with a monthly meal. Families will receive canned vegetables, fruit, pasta, rice, spaghetti sauce, cookies, chips, and a gift card to a grocery store or restaurant. Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the power to turn a life around
